Block Storage for your Seeds

You can now add extra disks to your Seeds with Block Storage. We call each of these disks a volume. A volume is booked independently of the Seed, and its data is kept when the Seed is reinstalled or deleted.

We store every block three times on NVMe SSDs in our Ceph cluster. Volumes are created in the console as usual and are ready within a few seconds.

Growing and moving

When space runs low, a volume can be grown while in use, regardless of the Seed's size. It can also be attached to another Seed in the same location, for example when an application moves to a new Seed. The data is available there right away.

All of this is also available through our Public API.

Billing and backups

Volumes are billed by the hour for the size you book, including while they are not attached to a Seed. Prices are listed on the product page.

Seed backups and snapshots cover only the Seed's system disk, so the data on a volume needs a backup of its own. Snapshots and clones of a Seed are only possible while no volume is attached.

  • New: Our changelog is now available as an RSS feed.
  • New: Two guides describe how to move a Linux server to the dataforest cloud, either by setting the services up again or without reinstalling.
  • Improved: Seeds are now created, reinstalled and cloned much faster.
  • Fixed: Connecting to the web console occasionally failed.

We look forward to your feedback and are available for any questions as usual.
