Updates April 2026

You can now list and sign out devices currently linked to your account. The new tag system lets you organize your resources and filter them precisely, laying the foundation for upcoming features.

Manage sessions

You'll now find a structured table of all your current sessions in your profile settings. To open your profile settings, click your name in the top right and choose 'Settings'. The table shows key information such as device details, IP address, creation date, and when the session was last active. You can also end individual sessions or all other sessions at once.

Tags

Tags are custom labels you can assign to your Seeds - for example by environment (production, staging), project, or responsibility. You create new tags on the fly when assigning them, with no setup required. Tags are managed per team and are available to all members. In the seed list you can then filter by tags to keep track of your resources, even as your infrastructure grows. Beyond that, tags can be fully managed via the Public API, making them ideal for automation and custom tooling integrations.

Tags also lay the foundation for upcoming features that build on a structured grouping of your resources. We therefore recommend establishing a consistent tag structure for your resources early on - so you benefit immediately from the features we'll roll out on top of it.

We look forward to your feedback and are available for questions as usual.

March 2026 updates

Here are the other product changes in March - complementing the 6 March changelog on the referral program.

Offsite backups

Backups are now stored in a different data center than your Seed - keeping your data safe even if the primary location experiences an outage. Existing backups have been migrated automatically. Management is unchanged: via the seed list in the console or the Public API.

New guides

At cloud.dataforest.net/en/guides you can now find guides to help you set up common applications on your cloud infrastructure:

Refer a Friend: The dataforest Referral Program

You can now recommend the dataforest Cloud and benefit together with new customers: With the new referral program, both sides receive token worth 25 €.

Referral Program

The new referral program is available in your team under the new Referral Program tab. Participation becomes available once you have paid at least 25 € (gross) to dataforest. After a one-time activation, you receive a personal referral link that you can share with friends or colleagues.

  • New customer receives: Token worth 25 € (gross) as starting credit - immediately usable after registering via your link and providing a payment method.
  • You receive: Token worth 25 € (gross) once the referred customer has paid at least 25 € (gross).
  • Credit: Typically applied to your team account within 7 days.

Token are automatically used to reduce your next invoices and can reduce an invoice to a minimum of 0 €. Surplus token remain on your account for future billing cycles. The full terms and conditions are available on the program page at cloud.dataforest.net/en/referral-program.

Clone Seeds in the Cloud Interface

As announced in our last update, cloning seeds is now also available directly in the Cloud interface. Create a duplicate of an existing seed with one click - ideal for staging environments or quick copies.

Additional updates

  • Improved: The rescue system now automatically configures the network connection and applies the SSH keys and password from the initial seed deployment - you can connect to rescue mode directly via SSH
  • New: Token expiry dates are automatically aligned with billing cycles, ensuring token remain valid through the end of the billing month
  • New: Country names are now spelled out on invoices instead of being displayed as country codes
  • New: Dedicated contact form at cloud.dataforest.net/en/contact - reach us directly through the Cloud website

We look forward to your feedback on the new referral program and are available for questions as usual.

Announcement

The dataforest Public API is here

You can now automate your cloud infrastructure: The new dataforest Public API lets you manage seeds and resources directly from your scripts, CI/CD pipelines, or custom applications.

Public API (Beta)

The new API allows you to control seeds, snapshots, and other resources directly via HTTP requests. The API launches as a beta - it is fully usable. We strive to avoid breaking changes but cannot guarantee this during the beta phase.

Access to the API is secured through Personal Access Tokens (PATs), which you can manage in the Cloud under the new API menu item.

In addition to full seed management, the API supports cloning existing seeds: The current state of a seed is used as the basis for a new one - ideal for staging environments or quick duplicates. Cloning is currently available via the API and will soon be available in the Cloud interface as well.

The full API documentation with all endpoints and sample requests is available at api.dataforest.net/docs. Create your first token at cloud.dataforest.net/en/console/api.

Additional updates

  • New: Create and manage Personal Access Tokens with configurable expiration (30 days to 1 year)
  • New: Password is no longer required when creating a seed if SSH keys are configured
  • Fixed: Rounding errors in token calculations that in rare cases caused minimal residual amounts on invoices
  • Fixed: Corrected confirmation texts for backup and snapshot restoration
  • Fixed: Backup pricing was not always displayed correctly in the toggle dialog
  • Fixed: Not all available seed series were shown in certain configurations
  • Fixed: Seed names are now validated for length directly on input

We look forward to your feedback on the new API and are available for questions as usual.

Fix

Traffic calculation corrected

Some customers reported an error in the traffic display. We investigated and were able to reproduce the incorrect calculation for a subset of customers.

What we did

We have corrected the traffic calculation and reset the traffic values for all affected customers. Traffic should now be displayed correctly again and remain reliable going forward.

If you still notice discrepancies or issues, please contact our support. We are happy to look into such cases promptly.

Thank you for your feedback - it helps us continuously improve the dataforest Cloud.
